Our Weekend

Happy Monday! I feel like the weekend flew by so fast! I’m working Sunday night but I’m off on Monday thankfully. When you read this, I will likely be sleeping…can NOT wait to go to day shift!
I really enjoy doing weekend recaps and it’s been ages since I’ve done one so here we go.
One
On Friday I woke up to dogs barking at our pool guy. You would think after three years they’d be used to him by now. Sigh. After breakfast and coffee, I headed upstairs to survey the media unit we built ages ago. I’m almost finished with all of the measurements and I should have plans soon.
That afternoon I met my girlfriend Denise for brunch. It was so great to see her (it feels like it’s been forever). She’s expecting her first baby and I’m so excited! I’m already planning for the things I want to make the little babe.
I started working on a coffee table too. I had to deconstruct part of it (the part that collects dog hair!) and I will hopefully have photos of that soon. I’m very excited with how it looks now plus no dog toys can get stuck under it anymore!
Two
Hubs and I started removing carpet upstairs (thank you Jesus!) but we can’t decide together on what floors to put down. I want ceramic tile that looks like hardwoods and he wants hardwoods. While I think either will be fine, I am worried the floors won’t be durable enough for the dogs (they are wild upstairs and that’s where they play most). Comment below if you have any suggestions.

Three
The dogs started using the swimming pool again. I guess it’s warm enough now for them. I can’t wait until it’s hot enough for a human swim day. Looks like more floor mopping in my future. Joy.
Four
I dyed my eyebrows on Saturday and this time I went a shade darker. I love that I can do this from home because it saves money and time! Next time I’m going to go a shade darker…maybe mix the black and brown together.
I used the Eyelure Brow Dye  in brown which I picked up when I was in the UK during Christmas.
I haven’t seen it here but you can buy it on Amazon.

My headphones died a few months ago. My Jaybirds Bluetooth Wireless Headphones lasted almost four years…which in headphone life that’s a really long time. One of the speakers stopped working so I had to have the volume really loud and I felt like it was damaging the ear where the one speaker worked.

I tried contacting Jaybird and Best Buy where I purchased them but neither would let me return/exchange them because I’ve had them for so long (even with the receipt). So after much contemplation and lots of review reading, I decided to try my luck with a cheaper pair and OMG guys they are are amazing…so far. I chose the

Soundpeats QY7 Bluetooth 4.1 Wireless Sports Headphones with Microphone (White)

If anything changes or they break, I’ll be sure to let you all know. Hey and for 1/5 the cost of Jaybirds, they are pretty amazing! The almost 10,000 reviews also say the same.
Seven
I was recently sent some new lipsticks to try. I was a bit hesitant because lipstick really isn’t my thing. Normally, I’m more of a gloss girl but after trying these three lipsticks I feel like there IS a lipstick for
me. Influenster sent me three colors from Bite Beauty from their Amuse Bouche line: Gazpacho, Pepper and Beetroot.
Pros: The formula is amazing! They glide onto your lips and they are very moisturizing, unlike other lipsticks I’ve tried (why I usually stick to glosses).  The lipsticks have a beautiful citrus scent; I prefer scented lip products. The colors are hyper-pigmented and they last a long time.
Cons: Gazpacho is a beautiful red, orange color but it doesn’t suite my skin tone. It also goes on my teeth after talking. I’m pretty sure that’s user error though. Any tips on keeping lipstick off teeth? Comment below!!
My favorite colors that I’ve added to my collection are Beetroot and Pepper.

The lipstick color Beetroot is such a gorgeous color. I bet it looks amazing on. As for offspring with Amber, will you name your child Lurber? Maybe Amura? Clearly the possibilities are endless. Sounds like you had a great weekend!

It’s a really lovely color but I’m afraid it’s too dark for my skin 🙁

Our Weekend

On Friday I delivered a brooch bouquet to a client. I decided to take the dogs with me to get them out of the house. The wedding venue was in Needville, Texas which is about an hour away from the house. Before we headed back to the house, I decided to let the dogs out into an open field (on venue property) to have a run about. Little did I know that Kate was going to find herself a pile of cow poo. That dog…poor Toby and I had to ride all the way back with a smelly pup. Friday evening we met our old neighbors (who are now living back in Canada) for dinner. We miss them so much!! They came back to the house and they had a few rounds of Hendricks, soda and a splash of lime with Hubs. I had water…stupid Interstitial Cystitis. Oh well, didn’t drink any calories.
Saturday morning I woke up early and I couldn’t breath out of my mouth. My tongue was swollen so much that it was blocking my oral airway. Talk about scary. I haven’t figured out what caused it but I think I have it narrowed down to two things which I will now avoid until I meet with a doctor about the issue. 1. Shellfish. I’ve never been allergic to shellfish before and I eat it almost weekly. 2. Lavender essential oil. That night I diffused some because I wanted to get a restful sleep and then I put some on my lower abdomen (over my bladder) to help with my bladder spasms. I’ve done both before and this never happened. Once I calmed myself down, I took a chance and swallowed a Benadryl (note: don’t ever do that if your tongue is swollen…but as a medical professional I took the chance..not smart). Thankfully it worked and my tongue swelling went down. Hubs made pancakes and Texas shaped biscuits using the Trader Joe’s pancake/biscuit mix and THIS cookie cutter.
Texas Shaped Cookie Cutter Biscuits
They were very tasty and even better with Trader Joe’s Strawberry Preserves. While he was cooking I read a few articles that said adults can develop allergies to certain foods/substances. Hopefully an allergy specialist will have more information on that. I REALLY don’t want to submit to allergy testing.
The Benadryl made me really sleepy so I ended up sleeping until 3pm. So productive right?! Ha. We decided to go see the new Insurgent movie. It was pretty good. I think I need to see the first one over again. I was surprised with how well I slept Saturday evening. Whenever I take Benadryl I have really trippy dreams. I was in my old neighborhood being chased by alligators. Weird because Virginia doesn’t have alligators and I’m not afraid of them.
Sunday morning we met our old neighbors again. This time we went to brunch…we went to Karl’s in Richmond. Best brunch. I always get them to make me an omelet and waffle. Yum!  Afterwards we took the dogs to the dog park. When I got home, I bathed them and worked on a trick that I started on Thursday. She finally has it. She will now go around objects on command. It’s pretty cute…bias. Here’s a video of what we have so far…and our horrible fireplace.
While Hubs studied, I took advantage of the beautiful day and started painting out entry table again. I HATE painting. Seriously, it’s been in our garage for over a year. I worked on it for a little bit and then grew sick of a sore back.  First the paint was wrong and then someone used the wrong brush on the top and it left brush marks…the top was PERFECT with the wrong shade. Typical right?! So I sanded it down and used a Purdy brush. I think it still needs a little sanding (bugs stuck to the paint) and another coat for good measure and then a coat of poly.
I learned how to properly clean paint brushes today. It’s a pain in the ass but when you buy expensive brushes, it’s worth it to clean them.
The paint dried a lot darker than this photo but you get the idea.

I’m thinking these knobs for the drawers. Thoughts??

Remember these are the pulls for the larger doors on each side. I’m worried about the brass on the side of these being too shiny for the above brushed brass knob. Has anyone every brushed brass to make it less shiny?

Looks like it's time to stock up on epinephrine. I hope you can figure out what caused your reaction.
I love the pulls, those are so unique! I think they will look great with that color blue.
As for Kate, she is too adorable with her tricks. What a cutie!

Our Weekend

Where did the weekend go? I feel like we haven’t stopped but such is life.
On Friday morning I took the dogs to the dog park. They really enjoyed it and it was nice to not have to walk them in the afternoon. I did have to bathe them because they both love the mud and the pond.
That evening, Hubs and I did schoolwork and went to the gym and then ate the calories back by ordering pizza delivery. It really wasn’t that good which was disappointing but at least we didn’t have to cook. There’s something hard about stopping studying and starting again. I also worked on finishing a brooch bouquet for a client. That should be done soon and I will share.
I also finished some plans that I shared on Instagram. In my spare time, I’m teaching myself how to draw building plans. I really enjoy it because my drawings NEVER make sense to anyone. It’s nice to have another tool to explain my thought process. If you missed them, go follow me on IG. But I’ll share here, but only this time 🙂
I’ve been having trouble sleeping at night so I started taking melatonin temporarily until my body returns to a normal sleep cycle. I have also been drinking this tea and diffusing lavender in an oil warmer when we sleep. I think it helps. Something is working….well until i slept until 1:30pm this afternoon. Should be interesting trying to get back to sleep tonight.
On Saturday morning I woke refreshed and continued working on the brooch bouquet. Here are the majority of the brooches and the overall color of it. I think I love it more than my brooch bouquet!

Hubs and I took the dogs to the park again and bathed them AGAIN. It’s worth it. I really think that it’s helping with the shedding.  Saturday evening we went to the gym and I worked out with Hubs…which I NEVER do. I usually do my own thing and he does his but sometimes it’s nice to workout together. I’m sore today but a good sore.

On Sunday we went to church. We haven’t been in quite a while and it was nice to be back.

Well, that’s all I have for you today.

Happy Monday!

Our Weekend

My weekend really started on Wednesday last week. My husband went out of town Wednesday evening for his annual hunting trip. I met with my trainer and realized I can’t squat after long runs.
That evening I had a hair appointment. 10 inches and a few glasses of wine later, I had a new outlook on life. It was really starting to be a bit much with all of the running I am doing to train for my marathon. I don’t wash my hair everyday, even after running, because it’s not good for my scalp. Having shorter hair really keeps it cleaner and off my sweaty back during runs. Here is a little before and after for you.
The next day I had the hair cut regret. I tried styling it because I didn’t LOVE it straight. MY HAIR WOULDN’T HOLD ANY NEW STYLE. I was so frustrated. I went out and purchased three new hair tools in an effort to get my desired style. NOTHING. I didn’t think to wash out the products from the initial salon style. Duh Lura. After I washed it out, my hair styled effortlessly. And yall, I’m in LOVE!  I ended up returning the three styling tools and followed this tutorial using my existing curling iron. Kate is fantastic at explaining everything. Who knew the keep the ends out? Not me! Life changed!
Thursday I worked on a few projects in the garage and finished staining my stable for my nativity scene. I’m sharing how I made it in the next post.
Friday I napped a little longer than I wanted to but apparently I needed it. I also met with a friend to discuss my future in nursing. That was really helpful because I’d been contemplating another career change. We discussed pros and cons and everything kept coming back to nursing. I’d also considered becoming a physician’s assistant but that career isn’t recognized globally like nursing. IF we ever decide to move out of the country (Hubs is in the oil and gas industry so it’s always a possibility) I’d hate to have to start over yet again. So nursing it is.
I trained the pups.
It’s hard training two dogs at once. Especially when they are obsessed w treats. Teaching her how to spin with sign language. No words. Ultimately the trick will look like Toby’s spin. We just started this yesterday. She should have it soon

That night I watched WAY too many episodes of True Blood (I just started the series and I’m loving it) and went to bed around 4 am.
Saturday was graduation day for my classmates left in the nursing program. I actually wore makeup for the first time in forever. It was so nice to see all of my friends graduate after working their asses off for eleven months! Getting a BSN in eleven months is no joke and they did it!  Here are a few photos. They all graduated with honors and with jobs! Congrats to everyone. I will see you tonight in your tacky sweaters and booze in hand.
Blessy graduated with her forth degree! This lady is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.

Congrats to this gorgeous lady! Love you!
One last Wolf Pack pic! Congrats guys!

And to my kindred spirit.  Congrats! I am proud to call you my wifey! You are going to do amazing things!  LOVE YOU!
On Sunday Hubs came home and brought the pups some presents.
Christmas came early for the pups. Each antler should give us 4-5 chew sticks. Have you prices antlers in the store. Yeah. These were free. No worries, these were found on the ground (deer shed antlers annually) for those worried about lives lost. I personally believe in hunting wild game if the animal is respected and utilized once killed.

Thanks for posting the video! I used to curl my hair every day and since I've now straightened it for years it never looks right when I try to curl it now that it's a little longer again. I will be practicing with this over winter break;)
