Hello and welcome back to the second installment of the One Room Challenge of Spring 2016! I know I know it’s only a few weeks late but you guys to say I’ve been busy is an understatement. I was sick the week this was supposed to go live and this past week the 500 year flood…the second one this year…hit Houston. I was stuck at work and had no time to blog.
The last post I shared my hefty to do list and this week I’m going to share the design and how I plan to change the layout to make the room more functional for my needs. So here we go. Here is the current layout of my office….they didn’t have heaps and piles for me to add into the program so just use your imagination okay?
And below is the final layout for my office after I tried a few different layouts in the program. This one worked best for a few reasons.
Benefits of the New Furniture Layout
-Moving the desk 90 degree counter clockwise opens the floor space.
-The new layout creates a space for my printer, Silhouette, sewing machine, and serger.
-When the closet doors were open before, the room was closed off with the desk sitting closer to the door.
-The new desk position allows me to look out the window.
-No artificial lighting will be needed when I’m filming since the window is in front of my desk.
Now that the layout is finalized, it’s time to share the office design. I’m so ready for this space to be complete because I’m tired of using our dining room table for projects.
Bright and Bold Home Office Mood Board
Since the space is mostly used for creative outlet, I wanted a bright and bold design with lots of light and a lot of pretty organization. I’m slightly obsessed with everything that I pulled together. I’m typically not an orange and pink sort of girl but I fell in love with the fabric for the curtains and I based the rest of the design around that. Green is currently my favorite color so incorporating it into the room is a MUST!
Each item was thoughtfully selected for the space which I will share more on later. Oh and in case you are wondering where each item is from, I’ve linked them below (affiliate links: which means I make a small commission for anything purchased from those links which help keep my blog up and running).
Curtain Fabric the entire space design was inspired by this fabric.
Kallax Shelf and Desk I have the Expedit from Ikea but it is now known as the Kallax, I LOVE this unit because it stores so much.
Sputnik Light I haven’t decided 100% on whether I’m changing the light in my office. It’s not pretty but it’s really functional for crafting. I had a hard time deciding on a replacement light because I’m not sure anything can give me the same amount or more light as the current one. After contemplating my options and budget, I think I’ve settled on a flush mount Sputnik. More light bulbs means more light right!? Stay tuned…not I need to find one that can be deliever
Dog Beds Toby is always with me when I’m in my office. I wanted a space for them to be comfortable now that we don’t have carpet. Kate is actually afraid of my space for some reason (I think it’s the noise of my sewing machines/Silhouette that scare her). The beds that I chose for the space are pink and orange and the reviews say they wash really well.
TrafficMASTER Allure 16×32 Chateau Parquet Dark Resilient Vinyl Tile Flooring Deciding on flooring for the space was a really difficult decision and quite the process. I wanted a floor that could withstand my crafting accidents and I knew the carpet had to go (allergies!). I’ve had samples of this flooring for ages so I ordered a box to see how the product was and OMG it’s beautiful and super easy to install. Ladies, trust! SO EASY. Oh and the price is just right too!
Green Keurig I don’t really think I need to go into too much detail here. My dream office wouldn’t be complete without a coffee machine.
Overdye RE21 Vibrant Adileh Rug adds some color to the new darker flooring
