One Room Challenge Week 3 Problems and Progress

Things are going a lot slower than I thought they would. I am hoping to be finished within the next week or so but I’ve run into a few issues during the ORC. Let’s discuss shall we?

Problems

Time. You may or may not know that I work in pediatrics. My days are long (12-14 hours) and although I only work three days a week (full time though), I am exhausted after my work days. And since most of the projects are DIY, it’s very time consuming (should have contracted some of it out).

Weather. The amount of rain we have received since I’ve started the One Room Challenge has been absolutely insane. A lot of my projects need to be spray painted  and  the humidity in Houston after rainfall is NO BUENO for spray painted projects. Oh and when we have pretty weather, I seem to be working. No worries, I will get it all finished.

Removing the carpet. HOLY allergies Batman! I was sick for a few days after removing it because I guess I stirred up 20+ years worth of dirt and dust. Ew. I’m serious, I will NEVER EVER have carpet in this space again. Anywho, I didn’t do anything for a few days because I wasn’t feeling up to it.

Lighting–I ordered the light, installed it and guess what?! It’s not enough for my crafting space. So we reinstalled the old light until we find something suitable for a replacement. Any suggestions?!? The Vintage Revivals recently completed a copper light DIY which I think could definitely be a possibility for my space. Just not right now. I think I’m just going to leave the light as is for now.

Progress

The carpet is GONE! (sing that like “…the thrill is gone….”)

I’ve added some really cool metallic accents to customize my standard Expedit shelf! (more projects that I’ve added to the list). I’ll share a tutorial soon.

Super Easy ikea Hack

During that process I taught Kate to balance a role of tape on her nose. It was really cute to see her working really hard not to drop it.

My rug has been delivered and my flooring arrived and is ready to be installed (since writing this draft, the flooring is in and it’s gorgeous!). Here is a sneak peek!

Oh and here is a look at the rug. Toby approved.

Remove 20 year old carpet

Replace carpet with durable yet stylish flooring… I love this one from Home Depot

Rearrange furniture for a more functional layout
