One Room Challenge Spring 2016

one room challenge guest participation spring 2016

Surprise! Welcome to my new site. It’s still not finished but it’s so much better than my old space! If you are new to my blog and popping over from the One Room Challenge linkup from Calling it Home, HI! I’m Lura. I’m a fur mom and a wife and I am a jane of all trades. I run, sew, build things, train dogs (except when my two ignore me), and I also work in the medical field. Oh and I’m a professional sleeper! You can follow me on IG and on Facebook to see my daily life and to see a goofier side of me Snapchat! Domest1cability

Today I’m sharing a space that needs some serious work.

My office/craft dungeon / nursing school nook/ small shop sweatshop. Fact: This is a small space and a lot goes down in here but it’s not very functional. I’m joining the One Room Challenge as a guest participant in an effort to hold myself accountable and to make this space the BEST space for my many needs. Follow along and brace yourself for the before photos. I’m sharing all my dirt during this process.

Here was the space when it was cleaned about 1.5 years ago.

And after a few days of crafting it looks like this…must. learn. to. put. things. back.

before office

I’ve considered changing out the light in my room because it’s UGLY!!!! But I’m nervous because I need a light that’s going to offer me a lot of light and this one does the job! Maybe a beautiful sputnik light like this one? Has anyone created a cover for a light like this?? Please comment below if you have!

Oh! and that ceiling! I’d love to shiplap my ceiling but it’s not in the budget right now.
ugly office light that needs replacing but im nervous because it gives me so much light

This space needs serious help. So over the next six weeks I will be conquering this massive list:

The List

Declutter/Downsize

Paint walls and trim–hate painting…must figure out how to persuade husband

Remove 20 year old carpet

Replace carpet with durable yet stylish flooring… I love this one from Home Depot

Rearrange furniture for a more functional layout

Create mood board for visual purposes

Find a prettier light that gives enough light for crafting/photography

Create a space for nursing school stuff (already did this but need to share process)

Stencil wall

Reorganize all supplies after downsizing

Printer/Silhouette/Sewing machine storage–Possible Ikea Hack!

Add a rug to reduce foot noise from upstairs (going from carpet to solid flooring)

Add trim to existing curtains

Share process of framing wedding dress

Label all storage

SO MUCH STUFF TO DO!

Okay, I think it’s time to get off this computer and get to work!

The ORC is just the thing to help get a room in shape. I am dealing with a craft/studio space also and the challenge is just what I needed.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with

Are you finding you have a lot of supplies? That’s the most surprising thing I’ve found so far.

I’m also working on my craft room for the ORC. And I feel you on the organization – I really need some good storage for all my craft supplies! Can’t wait to see how your makeover goes!

Girl I had no idea how much stuff I really had until this challenge…I’ve started downsizing by using up supplies and that’s helped a lot! I can’t wait to see yours!
