This weekend we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. Since both of us have been really busy with work and exhausted, we decided to stay local and celebrate.
On Friday we went to Jason’s Deli for lunch. Nothing fancy but it’s my absolute favorite place to eat because they have the BEST salad bar and I love their boiled eggs. I’m easy what can I say. We then nipped into Home Depot to get a few things for our latest DIY. Before our anniversary, we decided that we would make something for each other using wood. Wood is the traditional gift material for the fifth wedding anniversary. Each year we try to stick to the traditional gift material theme and both of us were SO excited about this year because we love to build stuff. Constructing things for celebrations is sort of becoming a tradition around here. Do you remember how we made and hung our cornice on Christmas morning a few years back? I will reveal the anniversary build a little later and give you all of the details (I’m making my first Youtube video!) but here is a little sneak peek!
Continuing with our weekend recap…Rich had a few more things to tie up at work so I started cutting about a million equilateral diamond shapes and with the heat in our garage I had to take a lot of breaks. Once they were cut, we started sanding them. Some we ended up hand sanding because I didn’t want to jeopardize losing any of cedar grain. Before going to bed on Friday, I put a surprise anniversary gift in the garage hoping he would find it the next morning.
Saturday morning arrived and we made breakfast. Protein pancakes and cinnamon coffee. He surprised me with the Chloe Eau de Parfume and I LOVE it. A little goes a long way and it’s definitely not my everyday scent. I feel so sophisticated when I wear it. I was chomping at the bit for him to go to the garage but I knew he would suspect something if I mentioned anything so I told him to go to the trunk of my car and get me something. There he found a record player and two vinyl tracks, Johnny Cash and Amy Winehouse. Both of us are old souls and love music so I felt like this was perfect gift.
The wooden box that the watch came in has a little drawer on the front so I slipped a little love note in there. I’ll spare you the details.
I may have spoiled him this year but that’s what husbands are for. Around 10 o clock, we finally went into the garage and he saw the box! I played it off and started working. He opened it and smiled. I was really nervous to gift him a watch that JORD sent me because he’s super picky with watches. JORD was so nice to resize it for me but the sizing was still a bit off. I had to guess so I wouldn’t give away the surprise. It was really easy to resize at the house using a pointy object. Once he resized it, he said he really loved it. And he’s been wearing it for a week now (unlike the beautiful watch I purchased for him for his birthday). I asked him what he likes about this watch and he said it’s drier than his stainless steel watches. He said he doesn’t get sweat under it, probably because wood is breathable and lighter. He also likes the open face of the watch and being able to see the mechanical elements. #engineer.
I LOVE LOVE the style of the watch so much that I may ask for one for Christmas so that we can be twins. I chose this style because I love the contrast between the black face and the koa wood band. Koa wood is native to Hawaii which is a place on both of our bucket lists.
Saturday night we got dressed for dinner and took our annual anniversary photo. Before grub, we went to one of our favorite pubs, The Ginger Mule. I had the white sangria and hubs had the Kentucky Mule. We highly recommend it if you like mixed drinks. We went to Perry’s Steakhouse and sat by the piano. We both ate way too much and laughed a lot. Their french onion soup is fantastic…and the bread…and the dessert. And the company was fantastic too. He’s so sweet yall.
On Sunday we woke up and took the dogs for a walk. We worked in the garage on the project and I sewed some parts for the project. We finished up our amazing anniversary weekend by watching Mad Men on Netflix and went to bed early #perfection I’m not really sure why I’m using hashtags but oh well. HAHA.
