If you are reading this, I am on my way to my first ever HAVEN Conference. I am beyond excited and nervous at the same time. In preparation for the conference, I wanted to make a shirt with a cute saying to wear. My friend Amber is going along and we decided it would be cute to each have a cute craft, DIY saying. I am beyond thrilled with the outcome
I came up with Craft Yonce and she came up with this saying. It was super easy to make and only took about ten minutes.
Silhouette Cameo
Free Silhouette Cameo Cut File for Craft Yonce
Black Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
Cute fitter shirt
Iron
Ironing Board
Scrap Fabric
The main takeaway from today’s post is DON’T FORGET TO MIRROR YOUR TEXT before cutting the heat transfer vinyl (HTV). If you don’t, when you iron down the HTV, it will read backwards.
To mirror text in Silhouette Studio type out the wording that you want. Under the edit object area, select replicate and replicate right. Delete the previous object.
Load the HTV into your machine with the shiny side facing down. Before cutting the design, make sure you do a test cut.
Set your iron to medium hot setting (you can always add more heat later).
Once the file is cut, weed out the excess HTV. Lay the design onto the shirt with the shiny side up (clear layer). Use a piece of scrap fabric to lay over the design before ironing so the iron doesn’t burn the design.
Press the hot iron onto the design. I used the tip of the iron to sort of trace the wording very slowly and while pressing firmly.
To test to see if the HTV is adhered to the shirt, try pulling a corner slowly. If the edges are still lifting, reapply the shiny clear side and press again.
This was my first time using HTV and I can honestly say I am now addicted. I want to make so any shirts. Make sure you head over to Amber’s blog and grab her Crafty AF shirt file.
Very adorable! Well the shirts are cute, but I am talking about you and Amber.
Aw thank you Mrs. Anita.
