Cannon Beach, Oregon and Back to Portland Trip Part 2

I’m back to share the second part of our trip to Oregon. If you missed part 1 where we traveled to hike parks of Oregon, catch up HERE.
The idea of our trip to Oregon actually started with a photograph on Pinterest of this place called Cannon Beach…specifically Haystack Rock. Rather than share said photo, I’m going to share our experience.
We arrived in Cannon Beach on the evening of our second night in Oregon. We stayed at the historic Cannon Beach Hotel and our room was seconds from the beach. This was our view just steps from our door. We actually didn’t pay for ocean front/view and opted for something cheaper. We rarely stay in our room because both of us love the outdoors and seeing new places. I say that because traveling doesn’t have to be expensive…as long as your living situation is safe and CLEAN when you are out of town…the cheaper the better in my opinion. Hey I’m looking to save all I can because flying out of Houston is so expensive. I think I read it has something to do with the oil and gas market here. Anywho, I am so happy to share with you the rest of our vacation… here was our view while staying in Cannon Beach.

This is Haystack Rock  When the tide goes out, it has something so unique to offer. This is THE reason for choosing Oregon for our anniversary celebration trip. When the tide goes out, a whole new world emerges. Cue the song, “A Whole New World.”

You can see the barnacle line in the photo below. Anything with barnacle is usually under water when the tide is in. Domesticability Oregon Trip Mt. St Helens Haystack Rock Tidepools_-352

We dined at Newmans at 988 and I highly recommend it. It’s a very very tiny house turned restaurant and only has ten tables. Everything is made in house and the wine selection is spectacular. When I called to make reservations they asked if we were celebrating anything. We were celebrating four years so I told them that. When we ordered dessert, a plate arrived with “happy anniversary” written in chocolate, along the rim of the plate. An elderly couple overheard that it was our anniversary and secretly paid for our entire meal. We were both in shock for the remainder of our trip to know that there are still random acts of kindness occurring.
We only stayed in Cannon Beach for two nights before heading back to Portland to finish out our trip.  For the last bit of out trip I was sick so I didn’t take many photos…like I planned. We stayed in a tiny house and it was a really neat. It was our first time using Airbnb and LOVED our experience. If you haven’t signed up, you can sign up and earn $20 off your first reservation!  HERE is our listing and we highly recommend staying there if you are ever in Portland. The neighbors were really friendly. They have a bee hive and chickens which was really cool to see. The house even comes with a cat named Angela…it’s up to you whether you want her in the house or not.  She’s really sweet and loved to cuddle. She also likes to go indoors, outdoors, indoors, outdoors. It’s part of her hospitality to make you feel at home if you have dogs that do the same.

The tiny house was perfect for us…even for the 6’5” one. It was sort of scary climbing upstairs to go to bed. I had on socks and I could see how someone could get hurt if their foot slipped.

Also, not mentioned in the previous post. We drove through a few smaller towns on our way back to Portland. If it’s not a touristy area there’s a chance there won’t be much to do online so for me using google isn’t all that helpful. That’s when I like to use Instagram. If there is something cool to see, chances are there’s a photo of it on IG. For example, we had the choice between one town or St. Helens. I put in #sainthelens and looked at what others had posted. I started seeing images similar to this.

So we went. And guess what? We were a few days too early. SADZZZ!

Little did I know that the parts of the first Twilight movie were also filmed in the area so we did a little scoping out of those locations. I didn’t take any photos because I didn’t want to be “that” person.
Addresses for Twilight filming areas in St. Helens.
Bella Swan House
184 S. 6th Street, Saint Helens, Oregon
Thunderbird and Whale Bookstore
260 S. 2nd Street Staint Helens, Oregon
Boated Toad Restaurant
330 South 1st Street, Saint Helens, Oregon
For a complete list of locations in that area you can check out Twi Adventures
We went into a few antique shops because I love to torture my husband.
I’m having HUGE regrets for not buying a few pieces. Like this light. $60. Totally could have talked her down.

And this two foot tall ginger jar. Yes, only $25. But keep scrolling… sad news
The store was actually closed for an emergency. Only in a small town would you leave a note explaining why…and your phone number. I’m sort of tempted to call to see if the jar is still available.

I also picked up a few milk glass vases for my neighbor Melissa if you are reading this, could you send me a photo of all three together? Thanks. She was gracious enough to look after Tobias James and Kate Middleton while we were on vacation. They definitely missed us while we were away.

I missed my bed.

That concludes our Four Year Anniversary trip. If you missed part 1 catch up here.
Oh and before I forget, here is our latest anniversary tradition photo. LOVE!

What amazing photos you got, and you're really making it hard to not jump on a plane to head to Oregon. What an incredibly sweet gift that couple gave you for your anniversary. I'm glad to know there is kindness like that out there. Happy Anniversary to you both!
